New Queen: Deepika to get Rs 3 crore for 2 days shoot?

Sources say Deepika Padukone went laughing all the way to the bank post her shoot for her Rajnikanth co-starrer 'Kochadaiyaan'
Being roped in opposite South superstar Rajnikanth is no mean feat and Deepika Padukone managed to emerge on top last year after a tough battle with her peers that included Asin, Vidya Balan, Katrina Kaif and South actress Anushka Shetty. Insiders from the Kochadaiiyaan sets say Dippy was paid a staggering amount of R 3 crore for a two-day shoot schedule, setting a new benchmark in Bollywood.
Though the actress has a full-fledged role in the film, thanks to some new technology (Motion Captured Photorealistic Technology) she was required for only a couple of days.

Says a source, "Director Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin shot the scenes with Dippy in record two days. The technology enables each expression and motion to be recreated on screen after capturing every gesture of the actor."
Dippy apparently had to wear a specially designed body suit and filmed her scenes sans makeup.
Says Soundarya, "Initially Deepika was a bit apprehensive about how the technology would work. But she soon gave her complete commitment to the project. We completed her portions in 48 hours."
Deepika and the official spokesperson of the production house remained unavailable for comment.

MAKKHI, the dubbed Hindi version of the Telugu blockbuster hit EEGA, does exactly that. Original, inventive, innovative and imaginative, MAKKHI raises the bar of films made in India. At a time when most dream merchants in Bollywood are concentrating on mindless entertainers that kiss goodbye to logic, Rajamouli strikes the right balance between logic and entertainment in MAKKHI. The scale of the film is colossal, the plot is invigorating and the outcome leaves you mesmerized. Rajamouli targets not just the kids, but the kid in every adult and you can't help but root for the fly as it seeks vengeance from the cold-blooded and hardhearted assassin. On the whole, MAKKHI is a landmark film. You ought to watch certain films in your lifetime. MAKKHI is one of those films. For choosing a crackling idea, for executing it with panache and for taking Indian cinema to the next level, I doff my hat to you, Mr. S.S. Rajamouli.

The Anurag Basu production with Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz is now one of the 71 films named in the 2012 Academy Awards Foreign Language category

Even though it was selected as India’s official entry at the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category for the year 2012, Anurag Basu’s film Barfi! – starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz – and its road to a nomination for the most coveted film award has not been easy.
Detractors have been a-plenty for Barfi!, as most film critics howled that various aspects of the film bore a close resemblance to various other films. And they didn’t stop there. Many wriggled their noses in disdain, saying that portions of the film were plagiarised. But now comes news that should silent the barkers.
Barfi! has made it to the long list for this year’s Best Foreign Language Film. And now it will lock horns with 71 other movies vying for acceptance as nominations in the final shortlist. The movie has already been a box office hit in India, raking over Rs 100 crore at the box office. But will it bag the most coveted trophy and make India proud?
The answer to that one entirely depends upon how the academy views the film and how the makers of Barfi! push the film forward amidst the tough competition. Perhaps Basu can take a cue from Aamir Khan. The perfectionist actor’s 2001 film Lagaan (directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar)was nominated in the same category. Unfortunately, the epic drama could not win the trophy, even though it did make it to the shortlist with – we heard – an immense amount of lobbying by the star actor and the other producers. But Aamir, we think, can certainly be of huge help and inspiration to propel Barfi! to the place it deserves.

These photos are of a sinkhole that occurred early this year in Guatemala . The hole swallowed a dozen homes and killed at least 3 people.
